An online casino is a web-based platform (a web resource or an app) created to facilitate gambling over the internet.

For both the user and the operator, these platforms perform several key functions.

Entertainment Function (Main) Goldzino

For the majority of users, an online casino acts as a form of leisure and a source of excitement. These platforms grant access to a wide range of games that replicate the atmosphere of a brick-and-mortar gambling venue:

Video slots: The most popular category, powered by a random number generator (RNG). Table games: Digital versions of roulette, blackjack, baccarat, and poker. Live casino: Games hosted by live dealers, broadcasted live from studios. This creates an immersive experience and allows for social interaction. Commercial Function (Business Model)

The primary objective of any online casino, as a business entity, is to generate profit. This is accomplished through the “casino margin”—a mathematical advantage built into the rules of every game.

iGaming Operator: Oversees the platform, marketing, licensing, and financial operations. Content Providers: Companies (such as NetEnt or Play'n GO) that create gaming content and license it to casinos. Government fees: In jurisdictions where gambling is legal (for instance, in the Russian Federation concerning bookmakers and totalizators), casinos and betting companies pay taxes to the state budget. In Russia, the operation of online casinos is currently prohibited—except for designated gambling zones—meaning the state budget does not receive revenue from this sector. Technical Function

Today's online casino is a complex IT ecosystem:

Random Number Generator (RNG): A certified algorithm that guarantees the randomness of outcomes. Its integrity is audited by third-party auditors (such as eCOGRA or iTech Labs). Payment Gateways: Systems that facilitate fast deposits and withdrawals (via bank cards, cryptocurrencies, or e-wallets). As of 2025, AML (Anti-Money Laundering) checks are a mandatory, actively used feature. Turnkey and White Label Platforms: Pre-built solutions that allow a casino to be launched—fully operational—in a matter of days.
